Sizzling Heat

The dense heavy heat of the past few weeks are proof that the dog days of summer are well upon us. Other than swimming, all outdoor activities must take place before 10am or after 5pm due to the sweltering heat of mid day. While I have no problem enjoying the cool comfort of conditioned air for extended hours, the boys quickly succumb to cabin fever and can only handle a limited amount of time indoors. So Andrew helped Noah play with some of his birthday presents in the slightly less oppressive heat of the shaded back yard.

The slight temperature reprieve of the late afternoon and early evening afforded us a chance to take Andrew to a Redbirds' baseball game. The latest thing that Andrew enjoys doing at the baseball game, since watching baseball is apparently not an option, is grass sledding. Left field of our minor league stadium is not populated with the standard bleachers, no we have what is known as "the bluff". It is basically a large slanted grass area that is perfect for spreading a blanket and watching the game; oh and grass sledding with a scrap of salvaged cardboard box.

As a bonus, they had a fireworks show after the game. Although Andrew is a big fan, he tends to not like loud noises.

Andrew has also been taking swim lessons. I was a little worried about how well he would do since all of our efforts up till now have been met with stiff resistance. However, as per usual, he acts much better and is a star pupil when dealing with strangers as opposed to his parents.I was a little surprised that I kept getting glowing reports after each class expressing how well he was performing but sure enough on graduation day we were invited to witness some of their skills. And what do ya know, there he was swimming. It certainly wasn't Olympic caliber aquatic sport but he was definitely not sinking.

Agnes's work had an outing at the Memphis zoo involving breakfast and free admission. Since we're huge fans of both we made an appearance. As usually happens at the zoo, Andrew watched the animals and Noah watched Andrew. The mercury was well on the rise when we were leaving the zoo so we went to Babcia and Jadek's for swimming and pierogis.

We spent the remainder of our time indoors stealing phones, molding play-doe and generally wearing ourselves out.
